Random Forest Model Development for automatic daily New Particle Formation (NPF) event classification

Project Scope¶

• Gas-phase molecules undergo chemical and microphysical transformations to form new aerosol particles through nucleation and subsequent growth.

• “Banana Curve” within Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) aerosol particle size distribution observations are a known signature of a new particle formation event.

• Can a feature based classification of these events allow for automatic detection at the Southern Great Plains site?
